Notes and Reminders

  • First and foremost, thank you for your continued commitment and for the wonderful job you do serving our Lord and our parishioners at St. Cecilia's!
  • Please keep a master list handy so you are able to recruit a replacement for any time you're unable to keep your scheduled assignment. It is your responsibility to make every effort to enlist a replacement. If you've tried unsuccessfully, call Mary Ann Noto at 467-4286, x106 (or if you can't reach Mary Ann at the office on Fridays call at home at 338-2627 in case of an emergency).
  • Please let us know before each new schedule is made (call early before the next new schedule) if you know of any time you are unable to serve, so that you are not scheduled.
If you know of dates that you will be unavailable, let Dolores Schuler know (467-1778 or prefer e-mail notification at don315@frontiernet.net, if possible) by the 10th of:
    • September for October, November, December
    • December for January, February, March
    • March for April, May, June
    • June for July, August, September
  • Please keep our dress code in mind. Let your criteria be one of respect for our Lord and suitability for your roll as a minister of our church.
  • If you are a high school senior and currently serve in ministry, please remind Mary Ann Noto to nominate you for our Hands of Christ Award! We sincerely appreciate your involvement in our parish and service to our Lord and we would like to recognize you!
  • Encourage our young people, who have made their Confirmation, to join us in ministry as a Communion Minister or Lector. They should be in 9th grade or older. Have them call Mary Ann Noto for more information and to set-up a training session.
  • If you have any suggestions, concerns, ideas, about your ministry to pass along to Mary Ann Noto, feel free to call 467-4286, x106. You are an important part of our Liturgical Team and we welcome your input.

As you have probably heard yourself referred to by now in Church, Extraordinary Minister of Communion is the term used for any Minister of Communion who is not ordained. Our Priests and Deacons are referred to as Eucharistic Ministers. (Communion Ministers can cover either.)

In accordance with the General Instructions for the Roman Missal, we are asking
all Extraordinary Ministers who are unable to consume the Blood of Christ after distribution, to leave the silver cups on the credence table (side table, by the main pulpit). Please do not leave cups with any remaining Precious Blood in the sacristy on the counter.

If you are able to consume the remainder, please do so in the sacristy and leave the empty cup on the counter, as before. Thank You!

When Father McKenna or a visiting priest is the celebrant and Deacon Bob or Deacon Stan is not present, we ask that one of you please go to the tabernacle to bring the ciborium to the altar and uncover it. After the distribution of Communion, please wait at the altar, return the ciborium to the tabernacle and place the key on the side of the altar. If the Deacon is present, he will do this.

If anyone should come forward and present a pyx, please give them the hosts they request to minister to the homebound.

If Deacon Bob or Deacon Stan is present when 3 Communion Ministers are scheduled, it would be thoughtful of you if one person would step back and allow the Deacon to take your place.

Both Deacons only have their preaching schedules for one month and even those can and do change after our quarterly schedules are printed.

Thanks for your flexibility with our "changing-at-times" schedules! We sometimes do not know ahead of time (when the schedule is made) if there will be an additional priest or deacon present.

Please remember to pick up a missalette in the sacristy and review your readings prior to your scheduled assignment so that you can be comfortable with them.

Please remember, though, to speak LOUDLY and SLOWLY and to proclaim the Word of the Lord from the Lectionary during the Mass, not merely read it.

Also, please go to the pulpit and be ready to do your readings (and Prayers of the Faithful) when the time is appropriate, so the liturgy can run smoothly, without a lull.

Lector Reference Workbooks are available in the sacristy for your use, if you would like to borrow one the week before you are scheduled to serve. There is one designated for each Mass time. Please be sure to return it after your Lectoring assignment.
